As you can imigine, convention delegates -- especially national and state elected officials -- are wined and dined at party conventions. Corporations spend huge amounts of money on lavish parties. ABC News' Brian Ross -- who I now remember we also saw at the Obama speech in Denver -- detailed a report of such parties at the Democratic convention last week. Now, he has one up for this week's Republican convention.
Both parties are mired in fat-cat sleaze and are pretty much bought-and-paid-for by the big-money interests in our country. Still, it is worth noting that while John McCain basically suspended most Republican convention matters on Monday while Hurricane Gustav came ashore, these lobbying parties went on as planned. On both Sunday and Monday, Republican delegates saw fit to be smoozed while the Louisiana gulf coast was evacuated and it was feared that we might be in for a repeat performance of Hurricane Katrina's destruction. No, Democrats are no better than Republicans on this issue. Remember, however, just how big a falsehood it is that Republican convention scheduling was changed for anything other than political posturing.
