America & Civil Liberties

Glenn Greenwald has written a great piece titled "The Tea Party and Civil Liberties," but I honestly think that it is broadly enough written to apply to all of the federal government -- to at least two of the three branches, and likely all three.  It is worth a read and you will see what I mean.

Save NPR & PBS

The Republican just released their budget proposal, and it zeroes out funding for both NPR and PBS--the worst proposal in more than a decade. We need to tell Republicans that cutting off funding was unacceptable last time they were in charge, and it's unacceptable now.  I signed a petition to save NPR and PBS. Can you join me at the link

Best Super Bowl Ad

Bar none, the best Super Bowl ad this year was by VW.  I totally did this as a kid and even had the costume (although my helmet wasn't as cool).

Iowa, Human Rights, & Well-Spoken Courage

Iowa is considering an amendment to its constitution to ban gay marriage, something that is now legal in that state.  As those in the state house took up the issue, hundreds lined up to speak out on the issue.  One of these individuals was 19-year-old Zach Wahls.  While I'm sure that those who champion bigotry and hate had their speakers, none could have been so eloquent, so self-assured, and so protective of human dignity as was Mr. Wahls.  This young man did his mothers proud and his speech on House Joint Resolution 6 has now gone viral.  It should, and stands as a message of hope to us all.

April 24 Addition:  The junior Barbara Bush has released a promo in favor of gay marriage in New York state:

3 July 2014 Addition:  Zach Wahls is now a White House intern.  Much deserved.

Seattle: 90 Days Out

It has been three months since we lost Seattle. Time heals all wounds it is said and the loss has become bearable. Still, I think about her every day. Actually, I dwell on her every day and each time that I do, I still have to fight to break my thoughts away. Someday, I’m sure that this will end, but it won’t be today.

On the plus side, Honor has really rallied since the loss of her sister. She is more engaged and seems braver. Not brave, of course, just braver. LOL I have become closer to her and for that I am most grateful.

I love Honor and I love my wife and this loss has made me even more thankful to have them both in my life.

Seattle, I love you and I miss you still.

WoW Hunter Pet Comic Video

If you play WoW -- and especially if you play a hunter as I do -- this may very well be the funniest thing that you have ever seen associated with that game.  Actually, I had tears running out of my eyes and I couldn't breath I was laughing so hard.  And sadly, since Cataclysm went live, I have actually had this conversation.  :-/

Link to the video on The Hunter's Union or directly at YouTube.  It seems to be a bit cut off above.
