Iowa, Human Rights, & Well-Spoken Courage

Iowa is considering an amendment to its constitution to ban gay marriage, something that is now legal in that state.  As those in the state house took up the issue, hundreds lined up to speak out on the issue.  One of these individuals was 19-year-old Zach Wahls.  While I'm sure that those who champion bigotry and hate had their speakers, none could have been so eloquent, so self-assured, and so protective of human dignity as was Mr. Wahls.  This young man did his mothers proud and his speech on House Joint Resolution 6 has now gone viral.  It should, and stands as a message of hope to us all.

April 24 Addition:  The junior Barbara Bush has released a promo in favor of gay marriage in New York state:

3 July 2014 Addition:  Zach Wahls is now a White House intern.  Much deserved.

Another similar viral video is the "It Gets Better" speech that was given by Fort Worth, Texas, -- yes Texas! -- City Councilman Joel Burns. This one is 12 minutes, but is also great.
