Very soon, United Airlines will start charging travelers $25 for the second piece of luggage that they check during flights on the airline. The first piece of checked luggage will remain free, as long as it meets weight restrictions. No doubt, other airlines will be watching this closely to see if they should follow suit. Flying continues to appeal to me less and less.

And now Northwest will charge $15 for the FIRST checked bag. And since you can only bring a limited amount of toiletries in your carry-on, they are virtually forcing passengers to check bags for trips lasting more than a couple of days. Why not just add $15 to the price of a ticket and call it a day?
